An independent plumber with a decade of trust

plumb-buster.co.uk · 07908 948654
Plumb Buster is an independent, family-run plumbing business based on Drake Road in Crawley. For around ten years it has handled everything from dripping taps and blocked toilets to burst pipes, boiler repairs and full bathroom refurbishments for homes and businesses across West Sussex and into Surrey.
It is not a franchise or a call centre: customers speak directly to the plumber who does the job, and the phone is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including bank holidays.
Fully insured · DBS-checked fitters for bathroom conversions · Written fixed-price quotes
Great reputation. Invisible online.
Offline, Plumb Buster was already trusted. Online, it was starting from zero: a new website with no rankings, no search history and no authority in Google’s eyes.
Three things made the task harder:
- A crowded local market. Crawley rivals already had strong Google profiles — Proline Drainage with 129 reviews, The Drain Guys Crawley with 99, Güven Plumbers with 66 and Alogic with 41.
- Fewer Google reviews. Plumb Buster’s reputation lived mostly on Checkatrade, with only 19 reviews on Google.
- Search is changing. Homeowners increasingly ask ChatGPT and other AI assistants for a plumber, and those tools only recommend businesses they can clearly understand and trust.
One strategy, three kinds of search
Rank on Google
Appear in Google for “[service] Crawley” and “plumber in [town]” searches across every money service and every nearby town.
Be the answer
Answer the exact questions customers ask — cost, timing, what to do now — clearly enough for answer engines and featured snippets to lift.
Get recommended by AI
Make Plumb Buster a clear, consistent entity that ChatGPT and other generative engines confidently name when someone in Crawley needs a plumber.
Four months, four phases
Foundations & high-value pages
Launched the highest-earning service pages first: Burst Pipe Repair (7 Jul), Bathroom Fitters (9 Jul) and Bath to Walk-in Shower Conversion (14 Jul). First articles went live on 15 and 23 July.
Emergency intent & trust content
Published the 24/7 Emergency Plumber page (9 Aug) and three local guides on choosing a plumber, common Crawley plumbing problems and a homeowner maintenance checklist.
Local expansion
Rolled out neighbourhood pages starting with Southgate (23 Sep) and Three Bridges (24 Sep), plus a Kitchen Plumbing page (28 Sep).
AEO content sprint & full refresh
16 question-led articles on 6 October, 9 more on 14–15 October, the remaining service and location pages completed, and every core page — homepage included — refreshed and optimised.
A dedicated page for every job and every town
Instead of one generic “services” page, every service and every town Plumb Buster covers got its own optimised page, all interlinked through the main menu so Google and AI crawlers can reach every one in a single click.
16 service pages
9 location pages
Each location page is written around real local detail. The Horsham page, for example, covers the RH12 and RH13 postcodes and names Broadbridge Heath, Roffey, Highwood, Southwater, Warnham and The Carfax.
A consistent title-tag formula
Every page title leads with the service and place a customer actually types, then the brand:
The page ChatGPT now recommends first
The Bath to Walk-in Shower Conversion page, published on 14 July 2026, is the clearest example of the approach — and the page behind Plumb Buster’s top AI recommendation.
Depth on one job, not thin filler across many.
Survey, fixed quote, bath removal, waste adjustment, tray and tiling, sealing and testing.
Low-level trays (25–45mm), level-access wet rooms, walk-in screens and enclosed cubicles.
Standard conversions in one working day; level-access wet rooms in 2–3 days; written quotes within 24 hours.
Duration, floor work, bath disposal, mess and warranty — answered in plain English.
From Three Bridges and Maidenbower to Kilnwood Vale and Pease Pottage.
The proof it worked
When asked about a bath-to-shower conversion in Crawley, ChatGPT recommended Plumb Buster first and described its low-level and level-access options and conversion timing — details taken directly from this page. That is GEO in action: the AI repeated our client’s own content back to a potential customer.
29 articles that answer what customers actually ask
Answer engines reward content that resolves a question directly. We built a library of guides around the questions people search at the moment they need a plumber — what to do right now, what it costs, and when to call a professional.

Answer-ready service pages
Every key service page ends in a real FAQ. The Emergency Plumber page answers six questions — call-out charges, arrival times, night and weekend pricing, what to do while you wait, areas covered, and what to do if you smell gas — and lists six situations that count as an emergency. The Blocked Drain page answers five, including cost, same-day availability and outside drains. The homepage answers six more on insurance, same-day service, cost, coverage and whether Plumb Buster is independent or a franchise.
Making Plumb Buster easy for AI to understand and trust
Generative engines like ChatGPT combine website content with business listings and reviews. To get recommended, a business must look like one clear, consistent, trustworthy entity everywhere the AI looks.
Consistent business details
The same name, address (11 Drake Road, Crawley RH10 5NG), phone and email in the header, footer and contact page of every one of the 60 URLs.
Connected profiles
The website links to the Google Business Profile, Checkatrade, Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest so every source confirms the others.
Borrowed trust, made visible
385 five-star Checkatrade reviews surfaced on the homepage, plus clear statements on insurance, DBS-checked fitters and fixed-price quotes.
Specific, quotable facts
“One working day.” “Quotes within 24 hours.” “25–45mm trays.” “Answered 24/7 including bank holidays.” AI tools repeat facts like these.
Genuine local knowledge
Copy explains why pipes burst in Crawley: frost in older housing around Ifield, Three Bridges and Southgate, corroded copper in older streets, and pressure valves in Maidenbower and Bewbush combi systems.
A clear identity
Repeated, unambiguous positioning: an independent, family-run, local plumber — not a franchise or call centre — so the AI can describe it accurately.

From zero history to 3,630 monthly impressions
Google Search Console, web search, for the 28 days to 20 October 2026:
| Metric | 28 days | Per day | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Impressions | 3,630 | ≈ 130 | Times Plumb Buster appeared in Google results |
| Clicks | 40 | ≈ 1.4 | Local visitors arriving from Google, free |
| Click-through rate | 1.1% | — | Typical for page-two rankings; rises sharply on page one |
| Average position | 20.5 | — | Across every query, after under four months |
With most of the site’s pages only completed or refreshed in mid-October, these figures reflect the early stage of a newly built site. Google typically takes several months to fully reward new content.
What this proves for local trades
1. Specific pages beat review counts in AI search
With 19 Google reviews, Plumb Buster was listed above Proline Drainage’s 129 for a toilet blockage. The difference was a precise, well-structured page that answered the exact need.
2. AI repeats what you publish
ChatGPT described Plumb Buster using facts from its own bath-to-shower page. If your site states clear, quotable facts, AI will pass them on to customers.
3. AI visibility can arrive before Google rankings
While the site still averages page two on Google, it is already on page one of ChatGPT’s answers — a new channel competitors are not yet optimising for.
4. SEO, AEO and GEO are one job
The same structure — one page per service and town, real FAQs, consistent business details — serves Google, answer engines and generative AI at the same time.
From page two to the top three
Push to page one
Moving from position 20.5 into the top ten is where the 1.1% click-through rate multiplies — the same 3,630 impressions, many more calls.
Grow Google reviews
Closing the gap between 19 Google reviews and 385 on Checkatrade to strengthen the map pack and AI trust signals.
Local authority links
Earning mentions from West Sussex directories, suppliers and community sites for the most competitive terms.
Track AI visibility monthly
Re-running the ChatGPT tests every month and expanding to Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Perplexity.
